Profile of Martin Land - Liberal Democrat Party parliamentary candidate

"that the Tories remain a coalition between the blatantly self-interested, closet racists, and homophobes.." - Martin Land. For full quote and context follow this link.

Martin Land was selected at a packed meeting (must have been held in a kitchen!) in St Neots as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the Huntingdon constituency. For more information go here.

So who is Martin Land?

Other than what is in the press release I find he is associated as a founder member with a classical liberal party in France called Alternative Libérale (English version or French version). The Wikipedia entry gives this as a very minor party. At the 2009 Euro Election it gained 16,944 votes. This is equal to 0.1% of the vote.

Martin is also one of the Liberal Democrat organisers for Cambridgeshire and is in charge of Huntingdonshire, North West and North East Cambridgeshire, and South Cambridgeshire constituencies. This is rather a lot for one man to be in charge of and also be the parliamentary candidate for Huntingdonshire.

Martin has been an organiser for years. He did quite well when he stood for the County Council in the Eynesbury and Eaton Socon Division in 2009. The result was:

ST NEOTS EATON SOCON & EYNESBURY (2 Members) - Con gain 1
Christine Ellarby (Lab) 275
Rodney Farrer (Con) 1,699 - Elected
Julia Hayward (LD) 1,443
Catherine Hodgson Hutton (Con) 1,642 - Elected
Martin Land (LD) 1,305
William O'Connor (Lab) 273

snrednek says: If Martin dumps the organiser role he could make a fight of the General Election. But if Martin continues with his organiser role in Huntingdon and other constituencies then he won't be really fighting this seat.

One question I feel Martin Land needs to answer is: Are you giving up organising Huntingdon and any other constituencies to fight the General Election in Huntingdon?
