Now they want honours!

In a report from a secret HDC working group called "Democratic Structure Working Group" the idea has been put forward that future former Councillors who serve a minimum of 15 years can be given the honorary title of Alderman or Alderwoman.

Why? I don't know. I don't see any valid reason to give these titles out to former Councillors who have served 15 years. This is the aggrandisement of former Councillors. What is wrong with just ex-Councillor? There is an honours system out there. Why not use that system?

The Council is in meltdown over cuts. The Conservative run HDC answer is to give ex-Councillors with over 15 years service the Honorary Title of Alderman. Nice to know the Councillors minds are totally focussed on the cuts.
